Senate Votes to Maintain Funding for the Partnership for Sustainable Communities!

An update from Smart Growth America President & CEO Geoff Anderson on this week's Senate vote that preserved funding for the Partnership for Sustainable Communities! Anderson thanks all who called their Senators and voiced their support for the PSC. And as he writes below, the work continues as the bill moves to the House:

Great news! The Senate Appropriations Committee voted yesterday to preserve funding for the Partnership for Sustainable Communities. To all the supporters and advocates who took time in the last few weeks to write or call your Senators in support of these programs, THANK YOU!

This funding would allow the Partnership agencies to continue helping communities across the country grow in ways that support their local economies and are fiscally responsible. The Partnership's programs are already helping over 200 communities in the United States that are home to more than 80 million Americans, in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

While we are encouraged by this step taken by the Senate, there is still work to be done to protect funding for these important programs. The Senate appropriations bill will face a new round of negotiations with the House of Representatives before it's finalized. The House has voted to strip all funding for the Partnership programs, and so the funding will again be at risk in the coming weeks.

Thank you again to everyone who taken time to voice their support for the Partnership thus far. Your actions are a crucial part of our success. Working together, we will continue to fight for these important programs as the appropriations bill moves through Congress.

Sincerely,

Geoff Anderson,
President and CEO,
Smart Growth America
