Cool Planning: LEED-ND in Plain English
In giving some advice on LEED-ND on Pro-Urb, John Anderson once wrote "LEED-ND is a reasonable (but in my view excruciating) way to go." He suggested other paths to get to a similar place with "less brain damage."
In my latest Sustainable Industries article, Cool Planning: LEED-ND in Plain English, I recommend that Cool Planning: A Handbook on Strategies to Slow Climate Change would make a perfect handout for policy-makers to warm them up to the idea of creating incentives for LEED-ND. Or you could use it to help policymakers develop the kind of strategies/policies/practices LEED-ND gets you to--without the brain damage.
Several of CNU Cascadia Chapter's members were involved in creating this excellent handbook. Let's not let their work sit on a shelf--or in this case, the Internet! NOW is the time to be getting the strategies/policies this handbook recommends into place. Become familiar with it yourself and get the word out to your favorite policymakers TODAY!
I believe it would be very useful for small towns too--but let us know what you think--especially if you live or work in one. Your comments on the Sustainable Industries site will be especially valuable in helping me to reach a new audience.
